2016 Christmas Baking

Christmas baking is one of my favourite things to do this time of the year. I used to spend hours upon hours to stock the freezer and give goodies away to friends and family. Now I do not have all that extra time but I still make sure to squeeze in some baking time for our favourites and to share these experiences with Avery. She LOVES to bake since that usually means taste testing every ingredient she can and stealing one too many chocolate chips 😉

This year’s baking has a couple of themes – favourites and easy to make! Here is our 2016 baking list – which we have barely started!

Peanut Butter Snowballs – peanut butter AND chocolate? Sign us up!! These also sound super easy 🙂

Gingerbread Cookie Bars – I searched and searched for a non-cookie Christmas dinner dessert that was somewhat easy to make and found these. Gingerbread is hands down my favourite so I think these will be perfect to enjoy after turkey!

The BEST Ever Sugar Cookie As much as decorating cookies with a three year old makes me cringe it has to be done. I am sure she will eat more cookies and icing in the process than needed but that is what it is all about 🙂

Soft & Chewy Gingerbread Molasses Cookies – Again, Christmas is not the same without gingerbread cookies! I already made this and they are perfect, with one small change – reduce the baking time by 2 minutes so they are not too hard!

Turtle Stuffed Shortbread – This is an odd pick for me, as I am not a fan of shortbread of Turtles but I thought they sounded yummy and made them for Chad’s treat day the other week and they went off great – they were also very easy to make!

Chocolate Turtle Cookies – These are a household favourite so even though they are a tad more time consuming to bake I am not sure I can skip making them!

This year I haven't felt like baking so I'm not doing any Christmas baking, but I do plan to eat others. So if you have extra you want to send my way, I wouldn't say no. 😉

Liam and I made chocolate chip, shortbread and peanut butter cookies this year. He loves helping but man it take patience (which we know I don't have) to bake with kids.

Yum, These all look so good! I have really enjoyed doing holiday baking with Swede this year. I think she liked doing the gingerbread men the best. I'm still planning on a batch of classic sugar cookies (with frosting and WAY too many sprinkles) this weekend.

    Great list!

So far I've made these: http://sallysbakingaddiction.com/2014/05/27/soft-

And my little guy loved helping too. And tasting every single thing, including the dry mixture. :/

Rugelach – can't find the recipe but there are so many similar ones out there. They are soooo good!

    My favourite gingerbread recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Gingerbread-Boys/Det

Shortbread cookies – still looking for the perfect recipe.

And last but not least toffee: http://www.twopeasandtheirpod.com/easy-graham-cra
    Soooo addictive!

I love baking but with two little ones it's so hard to find the time!

Bah I need the Gingerbread Cookie Bars recipe!! LOL!!! We used to make so many goodies and give them away but alas no time! This year we have made shortbread, Muddy Buddies and sugar cookies so far. In the next 2 days I will also be making peanut butter chocolate cookies, more shortbread cookies because it's so good! and toffee balls!

Alison calls it "puppy chow". I'm not sure if our recipe is the exact same but they look and taste similar! Mine is from the Betty Crocker Christmas cookbook.

I just haven't had the time or energy to bake any cookies this year, but these all sound so delicious! I might have to make at least one batch of ginger snaps though…;)

Great pictures Linds!! The bokeh in the baking pictures is fantastic! We should take a photography class again in 2017.

We haven't done very much baking this year but did make sugar cookies! They didn't last very long……. we usually make naniamio bars and ginger snaps too.
