Weekend Recap

Mid afternoon I emailed Chad to see if we could go for supper ad he agreed so after work we went to Famoso, Avery was beyond excited to eat out:

We watched a movie once the girls were in bed but I fell asleep almost instantly!

I took Avery to dance in the morning while Chad went over to our community hockey tournament. Avery is liking dance a lot more these days, she only has one week left so we will take a break after. While I like her in programs etc I also think kids need breaks from them.

We got home, bundled up and headed to the tournament. My Grandma came by for a bit and Avery was grumpy for some reason. Around lunch we headed home to eat then I went back to help and clean up.

How does she look 12 here?!

Later we made Valentine’s for Avery’s dayhome friends:

And the puzzle obsession continues, I bought some second hand ones for her:

Chloe’s hair always look so red in photos, but in person it is not at all, so odd!

We had a family movie night, Storks that night:

It looked like a perfect morning for a run so we headed out around 9am for 15km. It was pretty nice but could have been sunnier if I want to be picky 😉

We spent the day making Valentine’s day cookies, muffins and visiting with my one brother.

And attempting photos, Chloe was not having it – sitting still is horrible – so we made do:

And now we are ready to tackle another week!

Foodie Friday

Such a cold week, but the weekend (and today) is looking a lot better thankfully. I did not take a lot of photos this week, turns out I only took two – ha

Avery became puzzle-obsessed overnight.

Meal planning, with holidays approaching it is time to clear out the fridge!

Saturday – Healthy Pasta with Pesto, Broccoli and Tomatoes – ifoodreal

Sunday – Greek Bison burgers & salad – Run Fast, Eat Slow

Monday – Thai Peanut Chicken Quinoa Bowls – Iowa Girl Eats

Tuesday – Pizza (we order in for Valentine’s every year)

Wednesday – Slow Cooker Chicken Noodle Soup – Cooking Classy

Thursday – Roasted Cauliflower and Chickpea Tacos – Two Sisters Kitchens

Friday – Spicy Shrimp Burrito Bowls – Two Sisters Kitchens

This weekend we have our community hockey tournament so tomorrow will spend the day there helping out etc. Sunday is our last long run of this training cycle!! Remind me not to train for winter races next time 😉 Luckily we have had some good weekend weather for running.

Back to Work Transition

I feel like now that I have gone back to work twice I am a pro at this transition, well as “pro” as you can get with a big change like this! So I thought I would share some of my tips to get you through the transition and still have a semi-sane life 😉

1- Meal Plan. You guys knew this one was coming 😉 I get home by 5pm with the girls so there is really not a lot of time to think about what to make for supper and forget about 5pm grocery store stops! This way I can walk in the door and start supper.

2- Prepare the night before. I spend about 20 minutes in the evenings getting ready for the next day. This involved packing lunches, the dayhome bags, laying out outfits and anything else we need for the next day. This goes a long way in the morning when time is tight and things often go sideways (thank you, three year olds!).

3- Lower your expectations. Days are busy and sometimes things have to go on the backburner for a bit. But you will get into a new routine and everything will fall into place.  For me this means that my house is less tidy than I would like it, but in the grand scheme of things this is peanuts so I just let it be.

4- Schedule in your workouts. *If* you workout. I do a combination of early morning (5am), after the girls are in bed (7:30pm) and lunch time yoga classes. This is key for me to stay accountable and get my workouts done.

5- Use your lunch breaks. My lunch breaks rarely involve lunch! They are used for errands, grocery store trips, yoga class and appointments. But this frees up my evenings and weekends so I make it work. Granted, I have a flexible job and can eat lunch at my desk while working.

6- Set a cleaning schedule. I find this the easiest way to make sure things around the house do not get too away on us. This will look different for everyone but make sure you set aside time to do these things. Example, we do our cleaning Sunday after we workout (during naps) and laundry is started Friday night and all done by Sunday night so we are not fitting that in during our already busy week.

7- Have a visible family calendar. Ours is just a monthly printed one that is on the fridge but it allows us to see what we have going on and when so we do not double book and are aware of each other’s schedules.

And if all else fails, after a long day sit back and have a glass of wine and let everything “go” for the day and you will feel a lot better 😉

Chloe – 10 Months

Double digits!!

So these photos are getting harder by the month…

One of many outtakes:

Chloe is such a busy, fun girl these days (read: trouble) – she loves to get into anything and everything and bug Avery by taking/touching “her” things then racing off with them – typical little sister 😉

  • Taking Avery’s things and either hiding them or crawling away with them which annoys Avery to no end
  • FOOD – her favourites are Cheerios and peanut butter toast
  • Standing up
  • Music
  • Books (mainly so she can try and rip them all)
  • Cellphones
  • Remotes

This is how you will find her all the time, either trying to stand up at our legs or wanting up in hopes you have food for her.

  • Not having food and/or waiting for food
  • She is starting to go into the not wanting to get dressed/changed stage

This age is so easy, they love food and eat it all so no complaints! She has favourites and things she does not love but still eats it all. She gets bottles every three hours plus three meals a day and a snack or two usually.

Not too much change, she goes to bed at 7:30pm and sleeps until 6-6:30am. She has 2-3 naps a day all varying from 30 minutes to over two hours sometimes.

  • Consistently crawling on all 4’s now and in some weird crab like crawl.
  • Crawling up the stairs
  • Standing unassisted
  • 4 teeth (not really a milestone)

I have said it a lot but we are so proud of this girl as she rocked her first month in dayhome, she transitioned without any problems or tears and loves going there.

I am still in shock that she is a year in less than two months now! How?!

Weekend Recap

Super Bowl meant I was typing this post way too late last night!superbowl

Our weekend:

I was off a tad early for Chloe’s monthly weight check in then we made a Starbucks pit stop.

Oh and I got my first Frock Box and loved two of the items, olive green pants and a jacket:

I have NO idea how to take a decent outfit photo!

Dance class in the morning, then grocery shopping as usual.

We spent some time playing at home, then during nap time I cleaned and after Avery and I made muffins.

How awesome and true is this shirt?

Avery asked to go bowling so we met my Mom there for a game, she had a ton of fun and almost won (my Mom beat her by one point). After she played some arcade games with money she earned from cleaning and loved that as well.

We had an early supper then a family movie night to watch Trolls. The best selfie I could get and excuse my no makeup, just showered look!

Chloe loved it and fell asleep right at 7:30pm on my lap so we got her to bed and watched the rest.

We did our long runs on the treadmill in the morning followed by brunch, Avery asked for pink waffles so that was what I made!

After I finished cleaning and got snacks ready since we had friends coming over for Super Bowl. We spent the rest of the day visiting and hanging out and eating too many snacks 😉

Photos from the day:

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
