Chocolate Chase Recap

Over the past few years there has been a few really great local fun runs pop up in our city and I love that we have been able to be a part of them since the start!

This was the 4th Chocolate Chase, my first one I did 6 months pregnant with Avery! This year it grew to include a kid’s race as well as a 10km – both which we participated in.

This is hands down the best race for creating a fun, family friendly atmosphere with some great swag and giveaways at the event.

Both girls did the kids race to start, which was just a semi-circle but good/long enough for them! It was Chloe’s first race – and a success! I was helping out so sadly did not get any photos of them running.

The 10km started right after – to the point we raced through the start line! The route itself started on a big downhill, went across the train bridge, along the river then onto more trails and just before the 5km turn around there was another big hill to go up. They had no shortage of water (and chocolate!) stations which is always a bonus.

Chad did most of the stroller pushing, I only took it after hills so he could recover πŸ˜‰ Our previous 10km stroller run time was just over 53 minutes so we hoped to beat that time.

Because the course was an out and back we ended up a big hill but it was not too bad and we powered up it to the finish line at 52:55!

Thanks to our friend, Mary for the photo and IG shout-out!

It is not a chipped race but they do have a clock to see your time which is nice.

After is when the fun begins! From gelato from Famoso, Cuppitycakes cupcakes, Subway cookies (a hit with the kids!), Bernard Callebaut chocolates (the main sponsor), Starbucks coffee and more – your tummy and sweet tooth will leave satisfied!

I loved this photo frame they had for photos!

There is also face painting for the kids – shockingly Avery did not want her face painted! Bouncy houses and balloon animals.

I forgot that they have awesome raffle prizes that everyone gets an entry to with your race registration and you can buy more tickets. I always buy more since it is for a good cause (building a no barriers playground) and the past two years have walked away with a package. This year Avery was the lucky one and won a kids gardening package.

So local people – make sure to watch for this event next year! There is also a 3/5km walk/run – so a distance and event for everyone πŸ™‚

Currently

I have been meaning to write a currently post for weeks now, but alas we are in the final days of summer and there are other places I want to be than at my computer πŸ™‚

Speaking of the last days of summer – HOW?! I mean, it always goes fast and usually I am ready for fall but not this year. Everything pumpkin and the crisp morning air can just go away πŸ˜‰ So no I am not craving anything pumpkin.

Currently eating…Β the last of the garden veggies. Sigh. Not to be a downer but another reason summer needs to stay, I love out garden.

Currently wearing..all my summer dresses before they go away for the colder months!

Currently wanting…these Ray Bans new sunglasses? I have had the same pair for 2.5 years and have gone through two pairs of them (they are under $50) and I love them but eyeing up and well it is my birthday soon πŸ˜‰

Currently reading…nothing. I know, I know. I have a new book club book – so I need to get back reading . Confession – I have not read in months!

Currently loving…7 Second Detangular. I bought this at my hairdressers recommendation for Avery’s hair (so knotty!) but also love it on mine before blowdrying, it leaves my hair so much softer!

Current workout..SPIN! More on this soon πŸ™‚

Currently craving….homemade chocolate chip cookies. I could just bake them but then I would eat them all, it is a win-lose situation πŸ˜‰

Currently excited…for Avery to start pre-school. I know, so lame but I know she is going to love it and learn so much! We are planning a back to school shopping trip soon since she insists she needs to pick out some new school clothes πŸ˜‰ I made this little sign for her already:

Currently needing…more sleep. Totally my fault but I have been getting to bed too late and getting less than 7 hours a sleep a night, which for me is a no go. This is my September goal – earlier bedtime!

Weekend Recap

Lets just jump into the recap πŸ™‚

Friday

Chad wanted to go to the gym so the girls and I went for a run, I don’t mind taking them in the evening since usually Chloe will fall asleep and I can just transfer her to at home.

I was super tired that day so called it a night early!

Saturday

Avery and spent the morning doing some back to school shopping for her since she really wanted to pick out an outfit for preschool, then we went to Starbucks, got her haircut and got groceries. We got home just as Chloe was up from her morning nap, had lunch and played for awhile.

Her haul, she also insisted on boots for Chloe like hers except all black (no matching allowed!):

We ha planned to go to the zoo in the afternoon but Chad had to go to our rental house so just my Mom, the girls and I went.

It was a great afternoon for the zoo but we all missed Chad!

Later on we took our neighbour’s dog for a walk, he is so good and let Avery walk him both times that day!

Chad and I both had separate plans that night but neither of us booked a sitter and were tired so we stayed home instead.

Sunday

We were up and out of the house early for the 4th Annual Chocolate Chase! This is a favourite race of ours. Locals – if you have never been you are missing out! We had a blast and set a new stroller 10km PR! More on the race this week though πŸ™‚

It was a hot day so after Chloe’s nap we set up camp in the yard with toys, the water table and the sprinkler.

My brother and his girlfriend also hung out with us for the afternoon πŸ™‚

After supper we headed to the park, I know I keep saying this but I have no idea what we will do when it is not as nice out!

Foodie Friday

What a week! I need some serious sleep these days. At not even 8pm I am ready for bed .

Highlights from the week:

This goof:

Paint nite with my Mom and brother’s girlfriend:

I *think* this might be my best work yet!

A park trip after supper with the girls, seriously we are having the nicest weather this week again. I almost am tempted to hit the beach this weekend.

I brought up the exersaucer to clean up for a friend and the girls loved it. Β It trapped Chloe in for long enough for me to make supper – score!

Now for some meal planning:

Saturday The BEST Turkey Burgers & salad –Β –Β Live Fit Girls

Sunday – Easy Grilled Chicken (Damn Delicious) & Black Bean Quinoa Salad (Damn Delicious)

Monday – Pancakes & fruit

Tuesday –Β Β Thai Peanut Chicken Quinoa Bowls – Iowa Girl Eats

Wednesday – Quick & Easy Creamy Mushroom Pasta – Oh She Glows

Thursday –Β Turkey Tacos

Friday – Summer Chicken Wraps & sweet potato fries – Iowa Girl Eats

This weekend we have a fun run (10km) and then might go to the zoo or maybe the beach! Something to enjoy the last weeks of summer πŸ™‚

Weekend Recap

Despite is feeling more like fall every day it was a great summer weekend with blue skies!

Friday

I went to go for a run but it was windy and with a wind warning and some crazy weather we’ve had this summer I decided to take it to be treadmill for 5km:

I had a quick shower since we had games night at our house. We thought we would just play one quick game of Life…that went until midnight πŸ˜‰

Saturday

I spent 4 hours downtown at a yogathon for most of the day. It was the perfect weather for it and I think I only skipped about 40 minutes of the 4 hours. It felt not bad at the time but I am a tad sore today! I also got to try acro-yoga for the first time!

They had a kid area set up too so Avery joined me for yoga then Chad and the girls played at the kids area.

After I got home we had the usual errands to run and did not get back until supper so I decided to just have a hot dog roast and s’mores with my Mom.

Avery and Chad have been planning a backyard campout this summer so with limited time left to do it, we set up the tent and went for it!

We put Chloe down inside and then got her up and all went out once it was getting dark.

It was pretty successful, Chloe woke up around 4:30am and found a glow stick to hit us with but did got back to sleep once we hid it πŸ˜‰

Sunday

I woke up about 6:45am and wanted to get into the house (I am no camper!) but Avery woke up saying “it was not morning and NOT time to get up” haha

It was the perfect morning for a run, so despite being ready not to run Sundays we still headed out.

The girls passed right out during the run so we stopped for coffee after.

The rest of the day was spent doing chores, visiting family & cousins and going for pizza with my Mom and Grandma – I have no idea why I keep taking Chloe to restaurants!
