Foodie Friday

What a week! I am barely awake right now after a whirlwind (but fun!) week.

Monday was voting day! We walked over after work and got our vote on, Avery was pretty excited with the process since we knew someone running for council.

Avery working on her letter tracing after breakfast one morning:

Wednesday I had my biggest work event of the year. Chloe thought a nap at 7:30am was a good idea so I let her nap then went to work a bit late since ti was a long day for me – I got home at 11pm. My tired brain clearly was not working when I set my alarm for pm not am and slept in the next day.

Photos from my night:

Thursday was a long day and after battling a sore throat for weeks I went to the doctor. Turns out it is okay but he did prescribe me a couple days off work haha. I must’ve looked extra tired 😉

A rare moment of the girls colouring together:

Switching gears to meal planning. Comments on last week’s meals – crockpot chicken & dumplings? Major fail – I think the dumplings need to be in the whole time. The winner from last week would be the lettuce wraps.

This week I decided to do something different and have a meat free week! Lets see if Chad notices 😉

Saturday – Roasted Veggie Fajitas

Sunday – Roasted Red Pepper Pasta (Crazy Vegan Kitchen) & roasted broccoli

Monday – Black Bean burgers & sweet potato fries

Tuesday – Spinach, Tomato & Feta Frittata – Simply Recipes

Wednesday – One Pot Mexican Rice Casserole – Damn Delicious

Thursday – Spicy Thai Noodles – Life Made Simple

Friday – Roasted Chickpea Gyros – – Live Eat Learn

We actually have no weekend plans right now! I want to finish up my dresser and just have a quiet weekend 🙂

Canadian Christmas Swap 2017

There might not be any white stuff outside yet but we are already dreaming of Christmas 😉 Which means it is time to talk about the Canadian (blogger and more!) Christmas swap. Leigh and I are excited to be hosting it for the 6th year in a row!

We love how excited people get about it and how people come back each year to participate. Plus, it’s a fun way to “meet” new people and of course get an exciting ornament and package in the mail.

Previously we only had this open to bloggers but have decided to open it up to all social media people – having a blog is a bonus!

Here are the details – read carefully please!

  • You must be willing to share the package you receive on your blog and/or social media. If possible please use the hashtag #canadianbloggerchristmas on Instgram so we can all check out the photos posted there.
  • Leave a comment on this post or (Leighs’s) by November 3, 2017 if you want to participate
  • You will have to spend $20 (before shipping) on the package
  • The package must include an ornament. You are more than welcome to add anything else you want to the package.

Other important dates to keep in mind

  • Partners will be announced on both of our blogs the week of November 6 – 10th, 2017. You will also receive an email with your partners information from Leigh or I.
  • Packages must be mailed out by Friday December 1, 2017.
  • The link up will be posted on our blogs on December 13, 2017.

If you have any questions please let us know!

Weekend Recap

Jumping right into our weekend 🙂

I was not feeling so hot after work so we got Subway for supper and had a quiet night!

Started with morning swimming lessons – which was still going great (I am shocked lol), errands then lunch. After lunch we headed to The Jungle Farm with my Mom. It has more than enough to do and there was barely anyone there – so good for someone like me that is not a fan of crowds!

I made up with photos for the lack of all week!

The girls loved playing in this, there was tunnels in the stack of barrels:

Our best photo attempt (fail!):

They had a barn done up where you could take photos:

Avery’s favourite part was the maze:

By the time we got home it was time to make supper. Once the girls were in bed Chad and I watched the Baywatch movie, it was really corny but we expected that.

I debated not running with whatever I have (sore/swollen throat) but it was too nice not to so we did 8.5km. It was so sunny out!

Chloe picked out her attire for the run. She refuses to wear a toque right now.

We spent a few hours at home, doing chores, and reading our new book order books (the best!) before heading to check out a new dream home and visit some friends.

Miss.C – I want her outfits!

And she still lets me dress her so that makes it even more fun! Avery was more opinionated about what she wore starting around 1.

We had a good visit with our friends and got to see their new baby – Avery was so excited she got her hold her.

The rest of our evening was uneventful, we had tired girls which meant cranky girls and early bedtimes!

Foodie Friday

Happy Friday! So I failed again this week at taking photos to share things from our week but that is life when we do very little that is exciting Monday-Thursday since it is dark at 7pm now. Instead I will share one thing from my week I really like.

This week it is our morning cuddle time. I do not like to rush in the mornings so we all get up early enough to have some chill time. Usually this means 10-20 minutes of cuddling and watching TV after breakfast. It is one of my favourite times of the day 🙂

Avery is watching the TV – promise she is not that mad at me 😉 And Chloe just loves to smile for my phone camera!

And as I type this I think I might have come down with a fever/flu a few hours ago – I am hoping a good nights sleep keeps it away!

Onto meal planning!

Saturday – PF Chang’s Chicken Lettuce Wraps – Averie Cooks

Sunday – Slow Cooker Chicken & Dumplings – Budget Bytes

Monday – Pizza night & roasted cauliflower

Tuesday – Simple Mushroom & Broccoli Stir-Fry & smokies – Budget Bytes

Wednesday – Leftovers

Thursday – Shrimp Burrito Bowls

Friday – Ultimate BBQ Chicken Quesadillas – Budget Bytes

Weekend plans include finishing my dresser (maybe!), a trip to a pumpkin patch and hopefully a run outside Sunday morning 🙂

What’s Next?

Coming off the heels off three half marathons in a year I knew my body (and mind) needed a change. I had tossed around “whats next” ideas all summer knowing myself all too well that I needed a plan. At the same time that plan had to have way less running involved.

Here is the thing as much as I love running and could run 7 days a week I know that is not good for me one bit and only leads to exhaustion on all fronts. It also has never helped me PR any race. Fact – my current half marathon PR came after the plan with the least amount of running!

So with no big races after Sea Wheeze it was time for a new focus and adventure for this girl! First thing I had to figure out was my goals in the “off” season.

My goals:

  • Gain strength – everywhere!
  • Improve my cardio
  • Give my legs a rest from pounding the pavement or treadmill

For a couple years now I have been going to a local spin studio, My Revolution, one day a week on and off and truly LOVE it. I mean cycling my heart out in a dark room with a disco ball to loud music?! Sign me up – yeah, I am a cardio junkie at heart. Knowing that I had to keep cardio in my routine, I like weight lifting and yoga too but they do not give me the same outlet as cardio.

And how beautiful is this place?!

Looking at my goal to improve cardio I knew up’ing my spin classes should help me in that area. If you have ever attended a spin class you will know why I say that – your heart is a pumping!

Lucky for me I have made my lunch hours work for me and have been able to get to spin classes twice a week for a six weeks now. And despite only running once a week for the past month my cardio has not decreased and I am able to run my faster 5km like I was back in half marathon training.

Another reason I have backed off running has been a tight glute/hip issue that has been nagging for months. Luckily it does not bother me when I run but I know it is not helping and flares up afterwards. Cycling is a lower impact workout so I have ha way less problem in the last few weeks – score!

Increasing my strength is another injury prevention method as often I seem to fin my weak areas are where I get injuries or annoyances. I know this year especially I have neglected strength training and have now committed to doing it two days a week through Beachbody or Fitness Blender  workouts – both are awesome (and often fast!) at home workouts.

I am going to continue on this plan for the remainder of the year and come 2018 I will be working on a plan & races for the year so that we can hopefully get closer to that 1:40 half!
