Weekend Recap

Avery ended up sick in the morning so we had a sick day at home. Poor girl got sick a few times but was in good spirits.

We escaped for a bit to Starbucks:

We spent the afternoon napping (both girls slept for almost two hours!) while I watched cheesy Christmas movies, baking muffins and doing crafts:

I thought I was in for a long day but it went by fast and before I knew it Chad was home. After the girls were in bed I headed out for drinks with a friend = perfect way to end a week!

Our morning was filled with a grocery trip, Costco run and coffee.

Chloe getting food for the food bank:

At Costco we found a pre-made gingerbread house for $10! Mom win!! I planned to make it in a couple weeks but Avery insisted as soon as we got home:

That afternoon we went to the Festival of Trees, the girls loved the crafts and trees but as usual freaked when the mascots came out. Sigh.

We had a move night, a kid’s Christmas show then watched The Night Before once the girls were in bed.

Chloe cannot make it past 7:30pm!

My Grandma got us tickets for a Santa brunch so rather than rushing the morning we swapped our run to the afternoon. Brunch went great – both kids behaved and Avery was thrilled to see Santa, Chloe not so much:

We headed home (it was out of town) then got ready for our run. It was so nice out! Both girls napped on the run then we stopped at the park:

My brother and his girlfriend came for a visit with their new kitten before supper. Both girls are kitten obsessed!

We ended our evening watching football and baking cookies before getting ready for the week!

Foodie Friday

Between working full time, the girls and now marathon training these weeks fly by for us. I find it Friday before I know it and do not know where the week went!

The weeks started out cold and Avery asked Chad for the biggest suitcase we had so she could pack her entire dresser and closet and head out to Arizona for a long time. I thoughts I disliked the cold and she has me beat!

Chloe has been great with the Christmas tree leaving us shocked πŸ˜‰

Avery’s bed head πŸ˜‰

I love how much Avery loves the tree!

That is all from our week! Onto meal planning…Last week’s winner the Grilled Chicken Burrito BowlsΒ – burrito bowls are easily a favourite meal in our house these days!

Saturday – Salmon Burgers & roasted cauliflower

Sunday – Turkey Taco Rice Skillet – Together as a Family

Monday – Pesto Pasta with Broccoli

Tuesday – Crockpot Pulled Chicken & Greek Salad – Natsha’s Kitchen

Wednesday –Β Iowa Girl EatsThai Peanut Chicken Quinoa Bowl –

Thursday – Black Bean & Corn Quesadillas –Budget Bytes

Weekend plans include the Festival of Trees and brunch with Santa! Tis’ the season!

Weekend Recap

,Well it officially feels like the holiday season! I cannot believe it is here already but then again I feel like that every year!

I went to a Pound class/event that Becky put on – and it was awesome! Though it reassured me I have no coordination πŸ˜‰

We spent the morning running errands, getting coffee and checking out critters at the pet store – Avery has become obsessed with getting a kitten (not happening though):

We grabbed Vietnamese food for lunch before heading home to avoid meltdowns and lets be honest save me from making lunch πŸ˜‰

Our afternoon was spent decorating for Christmas. I got everything done minus the tree while Chloe napped – win!

Chloe in her Santa hat, her prefers to walk around with it over her eyes…

We had an early supper then headed downtown for the light the night festival. It was a nice night so crazy busy.

Avery left upset she did not see Santa but the line up was hundreds of people long – no thank you!

We watched The Hitman’s Bodyguard once the girls were in bed, it was pretty good!

It was a nice morning for a run so we did our long run (17km) outside:

The girls were pretty happy campers!

The key is snacks πŸ˜‰

I had plans to get outside in the afternoon but my tree took longer to get up (as usual) and it never really got sunny so instead we hibernated, listened to Christmas tunes and took our time with the tree:

All done!!

I was super worried with Chloe and the tree and while she definitely wants to grab ornaments etc she did really good listening so far.

It is only 8pm and I am now ready for bed!

Foodie Friday

This was on of our first normal weeks in a bit! We had no evening plans all week! It also flew by being a short work week. The snow has continued to fall here so I think we are in for a long winter… We spend a lot of time playing in the playroom these days, it had been a neglected room until now so I am glad the girls love it.

The girls also had their 18 month and 4 year old shots which went okay. Being that Avery was more aware of the needle now she panicked a bit when she saw the needle this time.

Since there is nothing else exciting from our week I will jump into meal planning! Oh and my favourite from last week? Greek turkey tacos!

Saturday – Salmon burgers & kale caesar salad

Sunday – Chicken Pot Pie soup & biscuits – Skinny Taste

Monday –Β Grilled Chicken Burrito Bowls – Dinner at the Zoo

Tuesday – Gourmet Mac & Cheese and roasted broccoli

Wednesday – Smokies, Perogies & salad

Thursday – Turkey Lettuce Wraps – Eat Youself Skinny

Friday – Tuna Wraps & fries

This weekend is the city hall park lighting – always a favourite event of mine to go to! Besides that I am crossing my fingers for a mild Sunday morning so we can get out for a run πŸ™‚

Phoenix Full Marathon Plan

In 3.5 (short) months Chad and I are running the Phoenix full marathon! I am pretty excited not only to do it together but to run another full. I ran my first and only full marathon in May 2011 and knew I would run another full but had to wait for the right time.

I really did not know when the time would be right but a month ago things fell into place and then I knew it was the full to run. I have learned a lot about running and my training needs since 2011 so feel this will help have a successful training period and race.

Back in 2011 I ran 5-6 days a week and did very little other forms of exercise. While I had a great race getting there meant mental and physical burnout. This time around I have fallen into a much more balanced activity routine that I think will help me avoid burnout.

Part of this routine involves consistent and hard cross-training. I have committed myself for the past three months to two days a week of spin classes and absolutely love it so knew I wanted to continue spin two days a week. This meant a three day a week marathon plan which I thought for sure would not exist or be recommended. But after some research I found quite the opposite. So the next thing I knew we were registering for the Phoenix full at the end of February!

Our training plan:

We have three runs to do 30km and over which for me is mentally the hardest part!

And if you are wondering how we plan to do this together with the girls – I really do not have an answer yet BUT I do know it is possible. When I had Avery a nurse in the hospital gave me the best advice, she told me “Now go home with this baby and love her, she is the best addition to your family but she is not the center of everything, remember yourself and your life too”. She nailed it. Which is why our kids are never an excuse and if anything a reason to do and be more.
