Foodie Friday

I totally lost track of what day it was this week! The girls and I have been busy hibernating (hello -30 weather!) and tackling a lot of organizing around the house which was much needed.

We have all the Christmas stuff down and some new decor up:

As much as I like Christmas decor I like taking it down and decluttering. I get a tad antsy to do so come Boxing Day!

Avery requested one last photo with the gingerbread house:

One escape for coffee and treats:

The girls have been too good this week, playing while I organized etc and even helping me!

Onto to meal planning. I am ready to eat a tad less sugar now (even though we still have cookies left, and a lot of chocolate!).

Saturday – Spaghetti & turkey meatballs

Sunday – Cilantro Lime Chicken Tacos – Belle of the Kitchen

Monday – Sweet Potato Black Bean Bowls – Spoonful of Flavour

Tuesday –Honey Garlic Chicken Stir-fry & rice – Dinner at the Zoo

Wednesday – Turkey Bacon BLTs & sweet potato fries

Thursday – Pesto Pasta with Tomatoes and Broccoli – ifoodreal

Friday – Chicken Taco Salad

This weekend we are crossing our fingers for some nicer weather since we have a 32km run to do and would love to not run on the treadmill for that long. Then of course it is already new years! Hope everyone has a great weekend and safe & fun NYE!

See you in 2018!

2017 Review

This has to be one of my favourite posts to write, I love looking back on the year and all the memories!

Marked my first month back to work after having Chloe. I went back 3 months early and have to admit loved it. The girls adjusted into dayhome great and all around it was the best decision for us.

We went on our first flight as a family of 4 to Arizona! While there Chad and I PR’ed at the Phoenix Half Marathon:

We spent our days visiting with family & friends, swimming and enjoying the sun. The 2 weeks went by way too fast!

Chloe turned ONE!

Easter is my second favourite holiday to Christmas and it is was even more fun with these two. I think this was the first year Avery really got into the whole “Easter egg hunt”:

May greeted us with some really nice weather and we started to spend all the time we could outside. Including the zoo, a Mother’s Day race and planting our garden!

Our first family hike that was great even with less than ideal weather! A family 10km race and a visit to our favourite little farm:

Canada Day, the fair & parade, fires & s’mores, beautiful sunny runs – take me back!

We took a short week of holidays that was spent in Banff for a few days for a wedding, then home for a few days and then our FIRST holiday since becoming parents without kids!

Chad and I Went to Vancouver to run the Lululemon Sea Wheeze half marathon with friends for three days, it was great to get away and we enjoyed every minute but agreed 3-4 days was our max!

Another family race!

Another hike to end of summer, the corn maze, beautiful fall walks and nights AND Avery started pre-school!

We hosted Thanksgiving, my crazy fall work schedule started, we went to Canmore to have family photos taken and we celebrated a chilly Halloween!

Miss.Avery turns 4! We went to West Ed to celebrate, Avery tried skating on real skates, and we started to celebrate all things Christmas!

December 1st feels like yesterday! I had my Christmas party, Avery and I went to a princess tea, we baked Christmas cookies, made ornaments and of course had the best Christmas yet!

While I am sad to see 2017 go I always look forward to what is to come. I know this year is going to be even better with all the fun things we already have planned!

Christmas 2017

How does 5 days fly by so darn fast?! I swear it was just December 21st!

The cold weather came just as Christmas did which meant a couple days of hibernation for Christmas, it was not until Christmas night I realized I had not left the house in two days!

Some highlights over the past few days, Avery’s pre-school Christmas concert (kinda..she decided NOT to sing/participate but did tell me she was not going to…), playing in the snow, looking at Christmas lights (best year yet I think!), and of course Christmas.

The days leading up to Christmas were a tad crazy but who can blame the kids?! And I had wine so all is good 😉

Christmas this year was something I have dreamt about for a long time. Avery is so into it all and was beyond excited. Chloe seemed to understand a ton and if you asked her if Santa was coming she said yes and fed off Avery’s excitement.

Christmas Eve we had family over, ordered Chinese food, did a little gift exchange of one gift each. I tried hard not take only a few photos but for the most part had my camera and photo away for a few days 🙂

Our 2017 Christmas photo, after to many attempts we settled on this one – Chloe would say cheese for one click and then try to run – so much for the 3 photos from the self timer!

One of many outtakes:

I got to work once the girls were in bed and got everything set out.

I was up at 5:30am – maybe I was excited too – and laid in bed until Avery woke up at 6:30am.

The girls were so excited to see their unwrapped gifts from Santa they had no desire to open much else, so they payed with those gifts, we got our coffee ready and then convinced them to open the rest of their gifts – over an hour later we were done!

I said after we should like they wanted to play with each gift and take their time versus rip it all open in 10 minutes!

My Mom and brother joined us for breakfast, we opened gifts with them then my Mom and I got to work on turkey dinner. The day always goes by fast with so much to do but we agreed it gets easier every year with more and more down time in between things. We had my whole family over for the afternoon and turkey supper. Which meant to world to me – I think it is all I really want for Christmas every year 🙂

By 8:30pm everyone was gone and Chad and I were ready for bed!

Boxing day morning my Mom and I went out for our annual shopping trip – Avery joined us too, brave girl with the weather! I forgot photos of my loot! I bought new lamps for our bedroom (seriously I owe you guys the makeover update but it is taking me a long time to find the right pieces!), two pairs of boots, a sweater, shirt, work pants and online a Lululemon tank. I did okay 😉

That afternoon and evening we went to my sister-in-law’s for Christmas which is always fun too. I left feeling thankful again (and very full).

Now it is back to regular life! This week I have a lot on my “to-do” list and since it is darn cold our it forces me to stay home and get things done!

Merry Christmas

With it being my first day of Christmas holidays (yay for 11 days off!) I wanted to pop in and wish everyone a wonderful Christmas. And thank you all for reading and supporting this blog & little hobby of mine.

I will be back after Christmas to share ours with you but in the meantime I am enjoying some family times 🙂

Weekend Recap

It is Christmas countdown! I think I am only working 4 days this week since Avery has a school Christmas thing Friday morning and typically we only have a half day the last day before Christmas break – and then 11 days off!

My Fridays are not exciting these days and consist of a tempo run, after my run I finished wrapping presents. I wanted to go over to a friend’s but did not have the energy to get ready again! Running life 😉

I finally took home some water beads from work for the girls to play with (we have a ton from past event decor):

We played in the morning before heading out on errands. I like not having anything to do first thing most Saturdays – I debated doing gymnastics with her in January  but am being selfish and want our quiet Saturdays longer so maybe in the spring 😉

Chad had to go to our rental in the afternoon so the girls and I baked Christmas cookies 🙂 Which is probably one of my favourite Christmas activities. Chloe helped for a bit, then napped then decorated after her nap.

We had an early supper then headed out of town to look at a lights display:

Another quiet night at home for us to get a good sleep before our long run!

We opted for treadmill runs since the trails were icy and we did not ask anyone to watch the girls. So that was our whole morning. I ended up doing just under 25 km when my treadmill stopped and I took that as a sign 😉 My Grandma visited for a bit which helped entertain the girls while our runs crossed over (Chad goes to the gym and I run at home).

Christma PJ photos 🙂

We went to the rink for a bit then to the playground:

Later we started a puzzle Chad’s mom gave us and ended up finishing it! Not much else to report from our day. Hope everyone had great weekends!
