Baby K – Weeks 17-18

What is Baby K up to? This week we are a sweet potato! He/she has become very mobile and is stretching, yawning, rolling, kicking and have a blast basically πŸ˜‰

How I am doing? Really good. Headaches have calmed way down and besides some soreness and low back pain I cannot complain.

Weight gained: 6.5lbs- Since they say about 1lb a week I tried to eat a tad more the past couple of weeks to up the gain a bit and it worked. My only problem? Finding enough healthy snacks to get me through the day!

Workouts: I am still really happy where I am at. The goal has not changed of 3 days a week at the gym (30 mins cardio and 30 mins weights), 1 day of prenatal yoga (which ends on the 19th – so sad) and 1 day at home – outside run, or prenatal workout DVD.

Prenatal workout DVDs…

I have tried a couple DVD’s so far and wanted to do a mini review for other Mama’s out there.

First up was one I took out from the library, What To Expect When You Are Expecting Workout.

There was 6 workouts on the DVD, each were 10 minutes – a tad short for my liking so I’d do 3-4 at a time. There is 3 cardio based workouts, 3 strength based ones and one for stretching.

I tried all the cardio and strength ones. I found the cardio ones all to require coordination – which I do not have ever, let alone now. I think maybe after time you’d get more used the routine so it’d be okay but the few times I tried it I felt awkward. The one strength workout used weights which I really liked but the other was more pilates based so no weights and I found I did not like it as much.

Overall, the DVD was fine, just with me only really like one of the workouts I would not buy it to keep.

The next DVD I tried I actually bought from Alison’s recommendation, Tracey Anderson’s Pregnancy Project. There are 9 DVD’s, one for each month of pregnancy and it was only $22 on Amazon so I decided for that price it’d be worth it.

I have tried 3 of the workouts so far, months 4,5 and 6.

The workouts are divided into 4 parts, warm-up, arms, butt/legs and cool-down stretching. All the arms workouts I have done use weights, one thing I really like. They recommend 3lb weights and I only have 5lbs but so far I have been able to keep up with the reps. You work more than arms in the sequence, probably almost your whole upper body. The lower body portion does not use weights (at least for these months) and most of the work is done on all fours. I find I like this less for a few reasons. One, my wrists start to hurt – I have the same problem in yoga and second, the different moves are only variations of each other so you really have to concentrate on what you are doing to get the moves right. I do know my lower body has been extra sore the past few days so I guess the workout worked, even if I did not do each move perfectly. Again, I am sure with time I will learn all the moves better.

For now I will stick with this DVD for home workouts, maybe later I might buy another but right now one is good.

Any other recommendations?

Movement: Yup still a moving, now I feel it almost daily but more when I am laying down or in the evenings. However last Friday I had almost 4 straight hours of movement which felt like little bubble popping in my stomach. The baby sits just below and to the left of my belly button all the time.

Food Aversions/Cravings: None either way.

Sleep: No change here, I have found myself a tad more tired some days when I have had a busy day. they day after seems a tad rough. Which is probably normal. I aim for 8 hours of sleep a night. I also have started waking up 3 times a night to go to the bathroom, which is fairly common.

Stretch marks? Nothing yet. Still using coconut oil and live clean baby and mommy massage oil daily to keep them at bay!

Miss Anything? My clothes! I have packed away so much and miss them. Oh and coolers, I’ve so wanted them lately.

Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week: Hmm… this is probably why I only do updates every other week, I cannot think of anything new!

Baby Items Purchased: We finally received all the cloth diapers we ordered on Zulily. We paid not more than $14 a diaper, which is a great deal. Usually they are $20 a piece. Check out all this cuteness:

Looking Forward To: Umm a WEEK till the gender scan. Baby K better cooperate!! We have a little reveal party planned for that night (June 17th) where we will find out with close friends and family. I will post the reveal that night or the next morning Smile

    Looking good! SO excited for Monday for you!! πŸ™‚ All the Tracy Anderson DVDs are done on all 4's for legs…which kinda gets long but I do feel it!! You should try month 1-3 I really like them! One of the DVDS I got at the garage sale was really good. I think I posted about it last week.

      Thanks and I know. I remember when you posted in was 6 sleeps for you, and now its 7 of us. Time is flying! I will try a early month this week, my goal is to do the DVD 1-2 times a week. And I will go back and find your post πŸ™‚

    That's so neat that you felt the baby for 4 hours straight! I can barely remember what early movement feels like anymore.

    Love all the cloth diapers. I miss using ours although it is nice to have less laundry to do now that I am at work. The cloth diapers were also good at holding skinny Miss A's pants up. And you don't get saggy butt like you do with disposables.

    I love that shirt you are wearing but I agree it doesn't show off the bump that well! πŸ˜‰

      Today has been the same, going on a few hours of movement. Crazy little thing theses days!
      So you did cloth for the first year? I was wondering how it could work with a day home, plus just not being home to do the extra work they might require.
      I know, its a favorite shirt of mine so I need to wear it while I still can.

        I did cloth for about a year. I didn't start cloth diapering until she was 2-3 months old since I wanted to do a trial before I bought all the diapers. The first day home was willing to cloth diaper but after a month or so it became too much work for me to try to fit in all the soaking, washing and drying every couple of nights. It was just too much work on top of working full time. Plus the current day home didn't seem willing to give it a try but by that point I was considering stopping anyway.

        With the next child, I will start cloth diapering as soon as she/he fits into the one size that we have.

    I'm doing Tracy Anderson's workout DVD Too. I'm only using it once per week, but I like it. I mean, it's kinda repetitive and requires a lot of concentration, but overall it's not too bad.

    The gender scan is so exciting! It'll be here before you know it!
