The Best Defense

Since summer is here – or at least it feels like it around us these days I thought we would chat more about how we plan to keep our sun safe this summer. Full disclosure first – I used to use tanning beds and never wear sunscreen but as I am older and wiser (HA) now I know better. Plus, I have two little ones to keep sun safe too -and like me they love to be out in the sun!

With kids that just want to run outside as fast as they can I have started to use spray sunscreen more – except on their faces – since it is easy and covers well.

alba BOTANICA Continuous Spray is SPF 50, eco-friendly, 100% vegetarian formula and contains no chemicals, parabens or oxybenzone – plus most of the other nasty “no’s”. PLUS it is water resistant for all those beach and sprinkler days and contains botanicas like Green Tea and Aloe to help keep your skin moisturized.

For Miss.Chloe I use live clean baby mineral sunscreen SPF 45. It keeps babies sensitive skin in mind, it is still easy enough to apply and also non-nano – meaning no small particles can get absorbed into their skin.

And again they contain no harsh chemicals or parabens – so important with little ones!

I am not sure about you guys but sunscreen is the easier part of keeping the little ones safe…The harder part? Keeping those hats and sunglasses on!

But like sunscreen we do not leave home without them – for myself too!

Our summer defense items – sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and water!

This year live clean introduced two new products that I have already used and loved:

A SPF 45 Face Mineral sunscreen and a After Sun 98% Aloe Vera Gel.

Since we have already had summer like weather I have used the After Sun Gel a couple times – still getting used to putting sunscreen on myself 😉 It instantly provided my skin relief from the sunburn and helped to soothe my skin.

All Live Clean sun care products are available at Wal-Mart and Shoppers Drug Mart. alba BOTANICA sunscreens are available at and Wal-Mart.

My other sun defense tips?

  • Get a patio and/or portable umbrella (or portable sun shelter) for on the deck, backyard, beach days and more!
  • When planning a beach trip find a spot with shade if at all possible.
  • Limit your time in the sun in the peak hours – usually between lunch and supper time.

The Live Clean and alba BOTANICA products were given to me at no charge, however all opinions expressed in this post are my own.

Summer Loves

So summer is still officially another week away but it has certainly felt like summer for awhile now since we have been so lucky with the sunshine lately. I have immersed myself in all things summer lately and loving being home with the girls these days. I thought I would share some of our favorite summer items these days.

1 – Sunscreen. Okay so I am bad here. I rarely wear it – I know, I know but am getting better and Avery is slathered in it all the time. I was sent two brands of sunscreen to protect the whole family (minus Chloe of course) this summer. Alba Botanica and Live Clean Baby.

Live Clean Baby Mineral Sunscreen Lotion is brand new and I was excited to see my favourite kids line come out with sunscreen! It is lightweight, non-greasy with no chemicals. As usual is also meets also of Live Clean’s standards, plant derived, free of sulfates, petrolatum, parabens, DEA, phosphates, silicone and hypoallergenic.

Alba Botanica was a new to me brand that impressed me right away, I love the spray bottle option with both sunscreens we were sent and the lotion is non-greasy – my number one must have with sunscreen. The sport sunscreen is perfect for our runs and beach days for Chad and I as it water resistant for up to 80 minutes. The kid’s sunscreen is also water resistant for up to 80 minutes as well.

2 -This iced tea brewer from Chapters. I used plum points to pay for most it and so glad I did, I make a pitcher every week and it saves me from spending extra money at Starbucks! Plus brewing iced tea at home is so easy!  And David’s Tea summer teas make perfect iced tea!

3 – Baby and Toddler Clothes. So my girls have better wardrobes than me these days. I have fallen in love with some local small shops and Old Navy like always has the cutest summer clothes for the girls as well.

Some of our current favourites:

Pineapple romper from Littles & Spice:

Shorts from Harlow Eden Designs and shoes from Minimoc

Shorts from Bear & Roo (we also have the BEST hoodie from them!) and bandanna bib from Hazelberry & Co:

These leggings from Hazelberry & Co and pineapple onesie from Old Navy – we love anything pineapple!

Oh and I cannot forget about Avery’s bathing suit “collection”…Is this a sign I have a problem?! 😉

4 – My Younique lip gloss. I am a lip gloss snob and love this stuff, it is not sticky and a perfect fun summer colour!
