We Are Here!

Happy Tuesday everyone! We made it to Arizona safe and sound a couple days ago now.

We left home Sunday about 3:15am – way too early – made all our flights, had good layovers and got to Arizona early afternoon Sunday. Chad’s parents picked us up from the airport and we spent the rest of the day relaxing, visiting and just hanging around the house. Since we had been up at 2:30am I went to bed by 8pm – I know I am such a party animal!

Going to bed at 8pm Sunday meant at 5am on Monday I was wide awake. At first I laid in bed trying to get back asleep but when that was not happening I grabbed my laptop and book and headed downstairs for some reading before everyone else woke up.

Sunday was fairly low-key, we picked up our rental car, made a trip to Target and Trader Joe’s – serious highlights for me, laid in the sun & read, went golfing and ended the night with pizza and a hot tub. There was one downside to the day… I was getting out of the car and the door hit in me in the head and this is what happened:

Yeah those are my Prada sunglasses. I was just saying the other day how I had them for two and a half years and they do not even have a scratch on them… I am so sad. Today we are going to the mall to see if someone can fix them and if not I guess I am in the market for new ones!

Our Target trip consisted of some clothes for me (bathing suit, cardigan, tank, workout top and sports bra) and tons of Chobani for $1 each! Trader Joe’s was lots of food for the next 10 days, I feel bad eating all my in-laws food so we make sure to cover our breakfasts and lunches, then for supper we are planning out cooking for them tonight and taking them out at least once.

I picked up this salad for Trader Joe’s for lunch:

It had butternut squash, quinoa, wheatberries, red pepper, raisins, cranberries, almonds, arugula, and goat cheese. I cannot wait to re-create it at home.

A few other foodie highlights – Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Caramel Coconut (which I may have just ate at 6:30am), Luna Mint Chocolate Chip protein bars (which was my 9:30pm snack last night) and Trader Joe’s Avocado Hummus.

Now for some photos!

The backyard where I am spending too much time sun tanning and reading…

For golfing I used little girl’s clubs! My in-laws bought them for their granddaughter, but they were actually a good size for me (remember I am 5’1”) and for my first game this year my score of 55 for 9 holes was not that bad.

The course we golfed at has a senior park model community around it, we saw this model with a triple car, I mean 2 car plus a golf cart garage:

Too funny! My in-laws have a home in this area as well that they rent out. I guess it is the perfect area for seniors since they are all from other places and retired and just want to chat and have happy hour all day long.

This morning I was up at 5:30am – still need to reset my internal alarm to at least 6:30am – so did a quick session of Yoga Meltdown before everyone else was up. I prepped overnight oats with strawberry-banana Chobani for us this morning so I am more than ready to dig into that and a cup of coffee.

I have another post prepped for tomorrow that I hope you all find fun, and I will be back in a couple day with what I have been up to. And maybe, just maybe, I will start using my actual camera and not just my phone for photos!

Where is your favorite place to shop in US?

This may sound lame but, in no order, Target, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods!

Almost Over?!

And just like that we are on our final day of holidays 🙁 It went by way too quick and this girl is not ready to head back to reality or the cold north – I hear they got TONS of snow too. Boo!

I left off on Saturday (I think), so will start on Sunday. Sunday morning was spent out by the pool sun tanning and reading Gossip Girl 🙂 And modeling my new Target bathing suit:

The highlight of the day, trying the new blood orange Chobani. When I was younger I loved orange yogurt and they discontinued it about 20 years ago and since then I have never found any again… Well this satisfied my craving for orange yogurt 20 years later. Now to figure out how to get some at home!

In the afternoon we headed out golfing with a bunch of family & friends. It was lots of fun, but not great on the golfing side! I need to practice more this summer for sure, golf lessons here I come!

We also made a Whole Foods stop Sunday, where I found a new and very interesting beer for Chad to try, VooDoo Donuts Maple Bacon Beer. We tried VooDoo Donuts on our road trip last summer and Chad loves trying weird beers so we bought this:

He expected the worst and it turned out not to be too bad, more maple and smoky flavor than bacon he said.

Yesterday was another relaxing day, started the day off with Peanut Butter Multigrain Cheerios topped with sliced banana and strawberries. Then we went for a mid morning walk to Starbucks, I opted for a hot drink this time and had my favorite a Vento Skinny Cinnamon Dolce latte, Chad had our go to iced drink – Venti Skinny Hazelnut latte.

In the afternoon we decided that we’d take advantage of having our own pool and Chad gave me a mini swimming lesson. First we worked on getting my head under water (yes this seems a little crazy but it was needed!), next we worked on breathing, then my stoke and finally put it all together – or I should say we tried to put it all together since I am not quite there yet. Soon my friends, soon.

Later in the day we convinced our in-laws to take us for one last Trader Joe’s trip to pick up a few more goodies for us and Destini, I owed her since she recently sent me some goodies! Then we decided to treat them for not only chauffeuring us around all week, but having us as their house guests and feeding us many times too and took them to Chipotle for supper. Okay, so this might have been a tad planned and one sided since I HAD to try it after always reading about how much others love it… Well the hype it true, very yummy, good prices, lots of food and somewhat healthy. I had the vegetarian bowl, without cheese/sour cream but added guacamole.

My favorite parts? That they offered brown rice, gave you TONS of guacamole and there was enough food for me take home leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch.

The rest of the night was spent on the couch since we were all too stuffed to do much else, oh except to eat the last two of our Sprinkles cupcakes 😉 The final verdict, my favorite is the….  Chocolate Peanut Butter cupcake. Huge surprise, right?!

Today’s agenda:

– Another pool/reading/sun tanning morning

– Baseball game – It is Spring training here right now

– Packing up all the food I bought…. this could be very interesting…

Hope everyone has a great week!

What is your favorite “adult” drink?

I do not like beer, enjoy a glass of wine with certain types of suppers, coolers are too sweet, I like vodka in moderation but my favorite mixed drink (besides the new skinny tea/lemonade combo I just found) is Kahula, soda water and a lime wedge – my Mom introduced me to this drink.

Sunburns, Pizza & Doggy Yoga

In one word the last few days have been RELAXING. Which is exactly what we wanted this trip to be. Now be warned this is one long catch up post! So grab a cup of coffee 🙂

Thursday we spent time shopping, and went to one crazy huge liquor store called Total Wine, went to a very popular pizza place called Pizzeria Bianco and a Phoenix Suns game.

Rather than bore you here are the highlights via photos:

Total Wine had easily 500 kinds of vodka, cake, cookie dough?!

cake vodka

cookie dough vodka

I bought Skinny Sweet Tea:

Mixed with lemonade probably my new favorite drink.

Pizzeria Bianco, we waited about 3 years to go here, they make the dough and cheese fresh daily!

I had the Margherita and Chad had the Wiseguy (fennel sausage, smoked mozzarella and onion).

The Phoenix Suns game:

Truth – I thought it would be slow and boring but it was anything but! Totally fun, even up high where we were. Next time I’d spend the extra money to sit lower. I would also say it is right up there with watching NHL hockey games live.

Friday was a very relaxing day, after doing Yoga Meltdown, having waffles with Chobani and berries for breakfast we decided to take a walk to Starbucks. Well, we turned the wrong way down the main road and it ended up taking us about 2 hours to get there and back, but it was a good walk for sure! In the end we did get our drinks:

sb az

I finally was able to have my iced coffee, since I had been craving one for the last month!

The rest of Friday was spent sun tanning/burning and finishing my book –We Bought A Zoo (my short review – it was okay, kinda slow, very detailed and dragged at times), happy hour, making supper for my in-laws and hot tubing.

Saturday morning started with the best overnight oats to date, I credit the black cherry Chobani for this! 1/3 cup oats, 1/2 a container of black cherry Chobani, 1/3 cup almond milk and 1T chia seeds, topped with chopped strawberries and Trader Joe’s peanut butter. Soo yummy but no photo 🙁 I also really liked TJ’s peanut butter but it looked way darker than the peanut butter I am used to…any idea why?

Once we were up, fed and ready we headed out to Scottsdale area for the day with a few stops on the agenda – Target (yes, again), True Food Kitchen and Yogurtland for fro-yo trip #2.

Target was way too successful as usual, and my cart was filled with clothes, a bathing suit, some baby clothes (for a friend that just had a little girl), a Camelback water bottle, more Clif bars, Keurig Chai Latte cups, and some other snacks. On top of all our other purchases down here lets just say my suitcase might be pushing that 50lbs limit…

Next we headed to True Food Kitchen in Scottsdale for lunch. I had heard of the restaurant from Angela at Oh She Glows and really wanted to try it. All their food is sourced as locally as possible, organic and made from the freshest ingredients. To drink I went with the Apple Carrot Ginger Tonic, which was really good and really orange! For our lunches, I had the Chopped Chicken Salad (chicken, cranberries, farro, dates, jicama, manchego in a marcona almond champagne vinaigrette) and Chad had the turkey burger with a side kale salad and sweet potato hash.

I really enjoyed the different menu at True Food Kitchen. At home I really get sick of the same menus with the same ingredients over and over again.

On our way over to True Food Kitchen we just happened to drive by a Yogurtland (really what are the chances! haha) so after lunch we made our way back there. I had to try it since Janae (Hungry Runner Girl )loves it so much 🙂 Well, Janae is spot on and it is our favorite fro-yo place to date. With too many options I went with vanilla bean, pistachio, coffee and coconut. Yes, a few too many flavors but I could not decide. I also wanted to try the chocolate mint but didn’t. The only one I did not love – coffee but I am not a coffee flavor fan usually – love coffee but not the coffee flavor. And as usual every topping possible…

And what was RIGHT next door?! Sprinkles!!

I had never been to Sprinkles but had heard TONS about it, and the line up out the door proved how good it could be, so we hopped into line. We went with four cupcakes to share with Chad’s Dad and Step-Mom. Our choices – Cinnamon Sugar, Dark Chocolate Banana, Peanut Butter Chocolate and Coconut.

We shared the Dark Chocolate Banana last night and it was pretty darn yummy.

After the Yogurtland and Sprinkles stops we decided to go for a little walk to what we thought was a farmer’s market, but turned out to be a doggy festival! There was dog everything and lots of pups too! The best part? A doggy yoga class:

Last night we headed over to Chad’s Aunt’s house for a BBQ, and just enjoyed the company before coming home and going for a hot tub and then hitting the sack at 10pm 🙂

Have you ever been to a Sprinkles? What cupcake did you have?

Favorite fro-yo place?

We have been to Yogurtini, Tutti Fruitti, and Yogurtz and now Yogurtland – which is our favorite for sure

PS Sorry about any spelling and grammar mistakes! I am in a hurry to get outside to the sun and not proof reading today 😉

We Are Here!

Morning from sunny Arizona! After a 21 hour day yesterday we slept like rocks last night, but I was still up at 6:30am after a solid 8 hours asleep. I started my day with Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown, while waiting for everyone else to wake up. I am not planning on doing too many workouts down here but do hope to do yoga each day.

Going back to yesterday, we woke up at 2am to make our 6am flight. I was able to stay awake thanks to a Venti Skinny Cinnamon Dolce latte at 6am. The flight went as good as possible and I think from the time we landed till we had our luggage – maybe 15 minutes. Totally amazing right?!

Soon after arriving we were at the house enjoying this view:

The rest of the day was filled with swimming in the pool, relaxing in the hot tub, a Sprout’s (grocery store), Trader Joe’s, and Target shopping trip, fro-yo eating (finally!), and we ended the night with a few drinks and catching up with family. But by 10:30pm we could barely keep our eyes open and headed to bed.

A few photos from our day:

Tired Chad 😉

Fro-yo!!! Cake batter, Red Velvet and Chocolate and too many toppings to even name…

After yoga this morning I got to work on breakfast using some new (to me) and exciting ingredients:

Chobani Apple Cinnamon yogurt, a sliced banana, chopped strawberries and Peanut Butter Multigrain Cheerios – delicious!

Today we do not have too much on the agenda until later when we are heading to a pizza place called Pizzeria Bianco (highly recommended by Oprah!) and then a NBA game.

Do you enjoy flying?

I cannot say I am a huge fan but I am okay with it, however just a little turbulence does make me pretty nervous!
