Foodie Friday

Hey All!

So when I did my post on Avery at 3.5 years I am pretty sure I jinxed the no tantrums – she has had two major ones this week. Oy. But I am pretty sure she is growing since she also woke up with growing pains in her legs this week. So yeah it has been a week 😉

Chloe has had an eventful week, fell off Avery’s bed before work that morning and that day while my in-laws were babysitting she attempted to crawl out of her crib after her nap and fell. She is a tough cookie though and was not hurt.

What else this week? I ran Wednesday and it was perfect after a couple days of rain. Sorry no photo!

We got a surprise in the mail Monday! Thanks to Clif for the goodies, their nut butter filled bars are to die for – if you have not had one yet, run to the grocery store now!

Last night Chad went for a run for I put Chloe in the BOB and Avery ran with me to “train” for some upcoming races she is doing, 1.83km in just over 16 minutes!

On our walk after she found this field and would not leave!

Semi twinning!

Onto meal planning..

Saturday –Bison burgers & The Best Summer Berry Kale Salad – Balanced Berry

Sunday – Friend’s BBQ

Monday – Picnic (Avery and I are going to go to yoga in the park!)

Tuesday – Avocado Veggie Quesadillas – Gimme Delicious

Wednesday – Chopped Greek Kale Salad – Gimme Some Oven and Confetti Squares for our Summer Solstice Neighbourhood BBQ

Thursday – Thai Peanut Chicken Quinoa Bowls – Iowa Girl Eats

Friday – Greek Turkey Tacos

We have a semi crazy weekend ahead, a race, father’s day get together, a birthday party and a games night!

Foodie Friday

Happy Friday! Wow, Fridays you sure like to come quick these days, you better continue that when I am back to work! T-minus ONE week. I still cannot wrap my head around it.

This week we have been busy with swimming lessons, taking walks, going to the park, visiting with family and just enjoying down time at home since that will change very soon. Nothing too much to share really!

Yesterday, I received a fun little package from Clif with their two seasonal flavours just in time for the holiday season for the FIRST time ever in Canada!

Pecan Pie and Spiced Pumpkin Pie – can we say YUMM?! And both bars contain at least 70% organic ingredients. They are both available at stores in Canada already! I have seen them at our Save On Foods if anyone is looking Smile

As well, Clif is donating a portion of sales to the not-for-profit organization called Protect Our Winters. So make sure you try one of this seasonal flavours this holiday season!

Now onto more food chat… I am trying to collect easier/quicker meals or crockpot meals in my head these days for when I am back to work. I want to maximize my time after work with Avery so coming home to cook for an hour just won’t be happening. Have suggestions? Let me know please!

Next week’s meals:

Saturday – Hawaiian Pizza

Sunday – Cashew Chicken Coconut Curry – Iowa Girl Eats – 20 minute meal!

Monday – BBQ Chicken Quesadillas

Wednesday – Avocado Chicken Parmigiana (source) & house salad (Skinny Taste cookbook) – Having friends for supper!

Thursday – Chicken Caprese Pasta – Skinny Taste cookbook

Friday – Turkey burgers & salad

Weekend plans… Today me and my Mom are going to a craft sale that we have gone to every year since I can remember, then tonight I am going on a double Mom date with my friend and her Mom to see The Best of Me. No many plans for Saturday and Sunday right now, probably another quiet weekend Smile

Foodie Friday

Happy Friday! We survived our first full week at home Smile Now that is something to celebrate!

Keeping our (my) sanity meant making sure we had plans every day, either having people over or getting out of the house. Something else saving my sanity (besides Chad) – baths. I have had a couple this week once Chad is home from work. So wonderful.

Yesterday we had a mini Mom’s group with some Twitter friends who all have baby girls, it was great to get out and talk to other Moms. And today two of my best friends came by with their babies/kids. My one friend had her little boy only 3 days before Avery!

Such a cute couple Smile I really need to take some non baby photos these days, sorry for the overload!

So I am pretty proud of myself, I managed to get together a meal plan for next week. Freezer meals are helping a ton, just a couple days less a week we have to worry about getting supper made.

Saturday – Turkey burgers and salad

Sunday – Superfood Quinoa Salad – Iowa Girl Eats

Monday – Fish Tacos

Tuesday – Chicken Quinoa Chili (freezer meal)

Wednesday – Turkey bacon BLTs and fries

Thursday – My work Christmas party

Friday – Chicken Tortilla Soup – source

Our weekend is actually pretty busy, tonight we are going to the Festival of Trees for Taste of Red Deer where vendors have food and dessert stations set up then will check out the trees. Tomorrow we have a friend’s birthday brunch, some errands to run and visitors later on and Sunday we are decorating for Christmas and hopefully will get out for a walk – finally!

And lady but not least the winner from the Clif Bar giveaway… Congrats Laura Wilson! Please email me your mailing information and I will pass it along to The Clif Team.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Canadian Foods

Happy Tuesday!

I always spend too much time on different social media. One thing that distracts me the most is Twitter and articles that people Tweet out. Today was no different when I saw this article on Twitter, called “Canadian Food: The Most Canadian Foods Include Bacon, Poutine And Maple Syrup”. I read the article and thought it would be fun to share my thoughts with you, so in summary:

Some of the ones I knew were “only in Canada” foods– Kinder Eggs, Smarties, KD and Ketchup Chips.  My US readers, have you had any of these things? I know Kraft Dinner is sold other places but I do not think the other three are.

My favorites from the list- Saskatoon berries, Butter Tarts, Wild Blueberries, and BC Salmon. Until last summer I had no idea that most people did not know what Saskatoon berries were. I grew up picking them and eating them all the time, and they make the best syrup!

Foods from the list that I would think of as typical Canadian food – Poutine, Maple Syrup, Bacon, and AB Beef.

Item that made me laugh – Tim Horton’s Double Double. Believe it or not I have only had Tim Horton’s coffee once and yes it was good but not as good as most people say it is. I still do not understand this addiction!

This morning despite a temperature of -30 with the wind I wanted to wear one of my new outfits from Arizona. This one is from the JCrew outlet mall at the Tanger Outlets.

I LOVE colored pants! And the sweater is so soft.

Today was gym night since last night we had our home workout of the week. I opted for a 3.4km treadmill walk and then a chest and triceps workout at the gym. For chest and triceps I did 3 sets of 12 of these moves:

Flat Bench Fly

Chest Press

Standing Tricep Extension

Tricep Pulldown

Supper was a easy one, grilled tuna wraps – using my new found wrap method (which I should video for you guys) and waffle fries – I had a last minute craving there. It tasted way better than it looked!

I also received a package from Clif Bar in the mail today with their new flavors to Canada, my favorite White Chocolate Macadamia Nut and Coconut Chocolate Chip. Chad already snuck at Coconut Chocolate Chip bar and loved it!

So, so happy that it is daylight until almost 8pm. Now if this snow would melt a bit so I could run on clear sidewalks after work I would be a happy gal. C’mon Spring!

What food do you think of when you hear “Canadian Food”?
