2016 Mud Hero Ambassador & A Giveaway

Hey Everyone! I have some fun news to share with you all today – AND there is even something in it for one lucky reader!

Every since the Mud Hero race came to Red Deer I have ran it with Chad and friends, and every year it is a blast. And I promise even you non-muddy types you will have fun too!

The race is 5-6km, so a good distance and the obstacles break up the running for non-runners, but I hear this year they have also added a 10km distance too! There is usually about 16 obstacles in total.

The obstacles range from easy to hard in my opinion, but you always have the option to skip ones you are not comfortable with – after all the race is about having fun!

Last year the above obstacle probably tested me the most, I hate heights and water!

With your race registration you get a Mud Hero t-shirt, free event photos (like mine above), a finishers medal, a free beverage after the race and there is always a ton fo free sample booths at the event as well.

The Red Deer, Alberta race always seems to be VERY popular and is already 80% sold out!And now for the other fun part, as part of my role as an Ambassador I am giving away a FREE entry into a Mud Hero race of your choice. All you have to do is tell me what Mud Hero race you would run if you won in the comments below. Contest will close at 6pm MST Sunday, April 17th and winner will be announced on Monday morning.

Disclaimer: I was given a free race entry as a Mud Hero Ambassador but since I was already registered I am passing it along to one lucky reader!

Running for FUN – Spartan Races

Last week Kaella tagged me in a Instagram post on why I run, with so many reasons running through my head I picked me top ones to share back. One of those was:

“I run because it is fun.”

Such a simple but true statement. Not every run has to be (nor should it be) a training run, or a serious race. Like anything you should have fun running. I know some of my best times have been spent running with friends and family and at fun races.

In recent years there has been an explosion of different kinds of runs/races which makes me all too happy, well, it does not make my wallet happy but I love getting out for these types of events. One of the first ones we participated in a few years ago was a Spartan Race. Spartan races are obstacles races and they currently have three distances; Sprint (5km), Super (13+km) and Beast (20+km). I know a Beast is on Chad’s bucket list!

In 2012 we went to Calgary to do the Sprint (5km) distance and had a blast!

spartan 2012

So much so we registered for the following year for the Super (13+km) when we heard it was coming to Red Deer. Chad participated in it but I had to opt since I was 8 months pregnant at the time!

Chad spartan 2013

This year is my redemption when we both run the Super in September here in Red Deer. I cannot wait! I hope to keep up with Chad for it but he is a lot better than me at these races for obvious reasons. Either way it will be a blast and totally pushes me outside my comfort zone. Word is there is a swimming portion and I do NOT swim.

Now for the really exciting news, Spartan contacted  me last week to giveaway a FREE entry to an Eastern or Western Spartan race! AND give all my readers a 15% discount code for any race by using the code AROO15!

These races are so much fun and the best part is they are really for everyone. You can go at your pace and do what you are comfortable with, though from experience you might be doing burpess when you fail to do an obstacle 😉

Since the Spartan’s goal is to help people lead happier, healthier and more productive lives for the chance to win a free entry to a race tell me how you have fun and stay active at the same time in the comments. The giveaway will close Sunday, May 10th at 8:00pm MST and the winner will be announced on Monday, May 11th.

I also use them in baking, and on yogurt. Watch for a recipe next week using them as well!

The people over at Manitoba Harvest want to share the hemp love and give away a package to one my readers as well! Dry Skin Woes

Even though we have been spoiled this winter with warmer than usual temperatures my skin still does not like the cold. Every winter I battle with dry skin and eczema spots and lucky Avery inherited my genes here. So now more than every we look for awesome products that provide us with relief.

I prefer to look for natural products I can purchase versus going to the Dr since my eczema is not severe but enough to be annoying.

A few weeks ago I got an email about a product from Dr. Roebuck’s  that sounded like it might be a great solution to our dry skin issues. I currently use and love their Pure Body cream which has made a huge difference for my hands this winter, no dryness at all!

From Dr. Roebuck’s:

Bubs & Bits is the ultimate solution for even the most precious skin, including dry patches, rashes, post-wax or shave, and problem skin. The unique formulation contains all the ingredients needed to rehydrate and repair irritated winter skin, and is free of all petrochemicals, sulphates, glycols, silicas, and all synthetic fragrances and colours.”

We started using it right away on any dry/eczema patches that Avery had, and within days most had cleared right up! It is really important to us that we are using natural products on Avery’s skin since it is much more delicate that ours so this products hits all the requirements there. It is also not heavy or greasy cream.

Lucky for all of my Canadian readers Dr. Roebuck’s wants to share this product with one of you! All you have to do is comment telling me how you combat dry skin in the colder months.

The giveaway will stay open until Sunday, February 15th at 3pm MST. The winner will be announced on Monday in my weekend post Smile

Good luck!

**I was given this product to try free of charge but all opinions are my own.**

Holiday Gift Guide for Her (& Giveaways!)

With just over a month till Santa arrives I wanted to share some awesome gift ideas that just happen to be local companies that I LOVE and to make it even better I have a couple giveaways too Smile

Poppy Barley. I do not know a girl that would not love this footwear.. Based out of Edmonton they sell ethnically made custom footwear.

Just look at their Foxhunt boots:

foxhunt boot

They sell e-Gift cards which is a perfect gift idea since you will need to do all your foot measurements for these beauties. (You can read more about my Poppy Barley Pop Up Shop experience here.)

Modern B Boutique. What girl does not love jewels?! Modern B sells (very) affordable fashion jewellery for every taste. From statement necklaces to watches there is something for everyone. I am currently eyeing up the Abrielle necklace.

Not only are all the pieces very affordable but shipping is FREE in Alberta! Because we all deserve to treat ourselves Modern B is offering all my readers 15% of their purchases until November 27th, I also guarantee any girl would love to find these pieces under the tree! Use the code arunningtale at checkout to get this discount.

Urban Cowgirl Infinity Scarves. To keep warm this winter while looking fashionable infinity scarves are a must have. Ever since discovering this shop I have been in love and had to practice restraint many times. I already have three of their scarves (and one more on the way!), and Avery also has a scarf. All their fabrics are extremely soft and great quality.

I just ordered the Buffalo Plaid scarf and am patiently awaiting it:

SO perfect for the holiday season!

Barefoot Venus sells a variety of bath and body products. I have come across these products a few times now and every time I grab a new product/scent. My current favourite is the gingerly line. The lotions are not greasy and very hydrating, which is a necessity in this cold, dry weather. If you need something more heavy duty they also carry instant hand repair. Or if you are like me and LOVE your baths they carry a ton of bath products. I already know I have a few of their products coming in my stocking (thanks Mom)!

Now for the EXCITING part, both Modern B Boutique and Urban Cowgirl are giving away goodies for you guys! There will be TWO separate giveaways, and you must leave a comment for each entry.

Modern B Boutique is giving away a $25 store credit! To enter visit their website and leave a comment telling my your favourite piece. For an extra entry follow them on Instagram and leave me a comment telling me you did so (and your IG name).

Urban Cowgirl is giving away one Glasgow Plaid Infinity Scarf! To enter visit their website and leave me a comment telling me your favourite scarf. For an extra entry, like them on Facebook and leave me a comment saying you did so.

Both contests will close Tuesday, November 25th at 7pm MST and I will announce winners the next day.

Again, separate comments for each entry please, so you could have up to 4 comments.
