Small Shop Love

One of my goals for 2015 was to have more purposeful and planned out blog posts. I am not saying that just talking about day to day life it not purposeful but I felt like I wanted to do more than just that on here this year. This involves me planning posts and ideas ahead of time, taking better photos than I usually do and then taking the extra time to write these kind of posts. One series idea that I wanted to incorporate with this goal was to feature small shops on my blog. I love to support small shops and all the unique items they sell that are hard to come by in regular stores. So once a month I plan to post on one or two small shops, all thoughts are 100% my own and I receive no compensation to do this unless I state otherwise.

Today, I have two fantastic small shops to share with you! Both are jewellery shops but very different.

Starting with sam & nat. I learned about this shop through Becky just before Christmas and ended up ordering two pieces as presents.

A bit about the shop (from her Facebook page):

“all pieces are created and hand stamped by myself, janine, in my airdrie studio. stamps may not always be perfectly straight or evenly indented. these small differences should not be looked at as imperfections but as what makes your piece one of a kind. all pieces are created individually for you, with your custom design in mind. the photos captured on this page are a representation of the design that will be hand made for you!”

I had Jenine create two necklaces for friends and let me tell you she is SO helpful. With very little info and scattered messages to her she came up with perfect ideas and I loved the finished products. My favourite aspect is that each piece is custom and hand stamped so there will never be another one like it.

This is one of the necklaces I bought for a friend. You can have any saying, initials or whatever you want stamped then she has many pieces you can add, including birthstones.

Jenine was great to work with and even though I placed an order less than a week before Christmas I had both pieces in my mailbox but Christmas!

Make sure to check out her Facebook page for ideas, as she has lots of her creations on there.

Shop #2 is one I shared back in December when she hosted a giveaway, Modern B Boutique. A local online shop that sells fashion jewellery at great prices. But this time I have more exciting news, she has teamed up with another shop to sell adorable mom and baby matching bracelets! Avery loves my jewellery so I was pretty excited to get her some of her own. Enough talking about them though, you can see for yourself, it does not get much cuter…

Oh wait, it does when I have the matching set!

Modern B also sells watches, necklaces and earrings! So make sure to check out their site.

There are my two small shops for January!

Foodie Friday

Friday!! This week actually felt a bit longer than the last couple. I have been on the tired side which does not help, it is a shock if I am still awake at 9pm.

Did I ever mention I joined a book club? I am pretty cool. I want to read more and knew this would get me into reading more but I got behind this week, and not have 10 chapters to read in less than a week. Oh boy. See, going to bed ta 9pm basically cuts out my reading time which usually would be between 9-10pm so I might need a new plan…

Want to know what else I do NOT do during the week now? Take photos. I blame the fact that we leave to work in the dark and get home in the dark and are left with bad lighting. I do manage to get some Instagram photos up though if anyone wants to see our smiling (or not) faces Smile

Now that I am feeling all over the place with this post I will move onto meal planning for the next week:

Saturday – Crockpot Maple Dijon Chicken (Skinny Taste) & Asparagus and Potato Salad (Oh She Glows)

Sunday – Birthday Party for a friend’s little girl

Monday – Slow cooker Thai Chicken Soup –(foodie crush)

Tuesday – Tuna wraps & sweet potato fries

Wednesday – Gourmet mac & cheese

Thursday – Baked Honey Lime Taquitos (Six Sisters’ Stuff)

Friday – Chicken Quinoa Chili – (freezer meal since I am at a event that night so Chad and Avery are on their own!)

I basically now refuse to spend more than 30 minutes cooking supper during the week which can make meal planning challenging. So if you have quick ideas send them my way!

Weekend plans? I feel like we are entering the holiday season starting this weekend. Saturday we are going “festival lights the night” downtown where they have ice sculptures, light City Hall park and other things, Sunday I am going to a Christmas craft sale with my Mom and then we have the birthday party that evening.

Have a great weekend and make sure to get in your entries for my holiday gift guide giveaway with Urban Cowgirl and Modern B Boutique. Both are awesome local shops you will LOVE!

With just over a month till Santa arrives I wanted to share some awesome gift ideas that just happen to be local companies that I LOVE and to make it even better I have a couple giveaways too Smile

Poppy Barley. I do not know a girl that would not love this footwear.. Based out of Edmonton they sell ethnically made custom footwear.

Just look at their Foxhunt boots:

They sell e-Gift cards which is a perfect gift idea since you will need to do all your foot measurements for these beauties. (You can read more about my Poppy Barley Pop Up Shop experience here.)

Modern B Boutique. What girl does not love jewels?! Modern B sells (very) affordable fashion jewellery for every taste. From statement necklaces to watches there is something for everyone. I am currently eyeing up the Abrielle necklace.

Not only are all the pieces very affordable but shipping is FREE in Alberta! Because we all deserve to treat ourselves Modern B is offering all my readers 15% of their purchases until November 27th, I also guarantee any girl would love to find these pieces under the tree! Use the code arunningtale at checkout to get this discount.

Urban Cowgirl Infinity Scarves. To keep warm this winter while looking fashionable infinity scarves are a must have. Ever since discovering this shop I have been in love and had to practice restraint many times. I already have three of their scarves (and one more on the way!), and Avery also has a scarf. All their fabrics are extremely soft and great quality.

I just ordered the Buffalo Plaid scarf and am patiently awaiting it:

SO perfect for the holiday season!

Barefoot Venus sells a variety of bath and body products. I have come across these products a few times now and every time I grab a new product/scent. My current favourite is the gingerly line. The lotions are not greasy and very hydrating, which is a necessity in this cold, dry weather. If you need something more heavy duty they also carry instant hand repair. Or if you are like me and LOVE your baths they carry a ton of bath products. I already know I have a few of their products coming in my stocking (thanks Mom)!

Now for the EXCITING part, both Modern B Boutique and Urban Cowgirl are giving away goodies for you guys! There will be TWO separate giveaways, and you must leave a comment for each entry.

Modern B Boutique is giving away a $25 store credit! To enter visit their website and leave a comment telling my your favourite piece. For an extra entry follow them on Instagram and leave me a comment telling me you did so (and your IG name).

Urban Cowgirl is giving away one Glasgow Plaid Infinity Scarf! To enter visit their website and leave me a comment telling me your favourite scarf. For an extra entry, like them on Facebook and leave me a comment saying you did so.

Both contests will close Tuesday, November 25th at 7pm MST and I will announce winners the next day.

Again, separate comments for each entry please, so you could have up to 4 comments.
