Foodie Friday

How the heck is it Friday?! Looking back on our week it has been crazy.

Monday was pretty quiet, Avery and I did a 7km run after supper -she fell asleep around 3km after she took this photo:

Oh and early morning deck cuddles to start our week:

Tuesday night around 7pm we were meeting with some landscapers in our kitchen (which is all windows around us) and I had my back to the window when everyone else was like “oh crap!”. I turned around to barely see anything outside and what looked to be a massive dust storm and winds. The wind took a gazebo from the house across the alley and crumpled it. We all watched out the window while I debated going into the basement. I fratically tried to check for tornado warnings but had no data of wifi. This lasted 5-10 minutes before it kind of calmed down.

Sadly, our poor city was badly damaged. We are known for the beautiful parks, trails and trees we have and there are huge losses. 100 year old trees ripped up by their roots onto houses, cars, power lines, roads and more. Sheds, buildings and roofs destroyed by the wind and debris. You can see photos here. We were lucky and only lost one small piece of siding on our house and our rental house was fine too. And the good news? There was no serious injuries from the storm!

It was a beautiful day beforehand though!

Oh and I tried out a new virtual reality game at a local theatre – job perks 😉

Wednesday I took off the afternoon, between no computer at work (it was being fixed), and a teething one year old I decided to work at home and have a quiet afternoon. We took a walk to the park too.

Later we went to our neighbour’s as they were hosting supper. By the time we got home I was so tired all I could think of doing was sleeping!

Yesterday we did not do much, my Grandma came for supper and then we had a quiet evening which is what I needed.

Onto meal planning.

I am pretty darn excited for this weekend – tomorrow I am heading south to see some of my favourite blogging friends and kids/babies for a much overdue visit and then tomorrow evening going to a local market here with some of my favourite vendors! Sunday we will probably go exploring as a family and enjoy the sun!

Booked

If you were to ask me what my dream trip(s) would be to go on I would have two answers – one – New York and two – Greece. Last night, we finally booked one of those two trips, to New York! Now to get through the next 5 months of waiting 😉 I am beyond excited, we have been planning this trip for a couple months but it did not seem real until the plane tickets were booked. We are going in December which could not make me more excited – Christmas season in New York?! Yes, I will be skating in Rockefeller and knocking kids out of the way to play on the giant piano in FAO Schwarz. Not to mention, I better get to see Live with Kelly and we are going to see a Broadway play. Chad said this is “my” trip… guess that means “his” trip is next.

Today was a Monday, slow at work, broken up with lovely acupuncture treatment aka nap. Then a crazy rain/hail storm:

hail july

I risked my life for this photo… or maybe just a eye.

Five minutes later it looked like this:

outside sun

Got to love Alberta weather, so very random.

Being that we did not have our usual Sunday gym trip we have the 4 days of gym to fit in Mon-Fri, since Saturday is always a rest day for us. Tonight’s trip was abs and chest I started with 15 minutes on the elliptical before doing this workout:

Wide Grip Barbell Bench Press 3 sets of 15 – 30lbs

Push-Ups – 3 sets of 15

Chest Machine – 3 sets of 15 – 35lbs

Smith Machine Incline Bench Press – 3 sets of 15 – 30lbs

Superset – 3 sets of: Reverse Crunch (12 reps) and Crunches (20 reps)

Side Crunches – 20lbs – 3 sets of 12 each side

Roman Chair Leg Lift – 3 sets of 15

I thought my legs might be sore today from the race, but I am not at all. Guess my body does remember how to run!

Supper was a household favorite, from Ashley at (never home) maker, coconut chickpea curry. I usually serve it with quinoa but tonight we opted for a new wholewheat naan we bought last week.

Now I need to get back into the kitchen, its my work treat day tomorrow and I am making Emily’s  (Daily Garnish) Chocolate Chip Brownies.

Where is your top dream trip to?

It’s a tie between NYC and Greece for me… and yes, I have a time frame on Greece too, for our 5 year anniversary, so 2015!

A storm is a brewing..

Check out the skies right now!

I literally said to Chad “I am going to go out and clean out my car a bit before the storm hits”, only to open the door and see those skies! Eeek! Plan b – blog! I am typing this from the office while keep a close eye on those clouds, too much scary weather not too!
Backing up to after work, I came home and completed the same workout as last week – three times through in about 30 minutes! I love quick workouts some days 🙂 Apparently it was the night of quick things because supper was too:
Spinach and mixed greens salad with cherry tomatoes, mini cucumbers and red peppers. On the side Falafels and half a pita with hummus and Greek yogurt dill dip (made by my friend Karen!) for dipping. Yum!
Now it is time to book a few things for our California road trip in five weeks – Disney passes, Alcatraz and a baseball game!
Hope everyone had a great Monday!
Anyone else seeing crazy weather this summer?
We always get a few bad summer storms but there seems to be a lot more this year!
