so after some thinking I thought it might be best to break the honeymoon recap into 4 parts, one for each destination we went to and then add is some ship stuff there too, if not it might be too overwhelming!
part one – southbeach, miami
on january 13th we fly off to miami, with only one minor incident – our first flight was delayed an hour because it was too cold to get our right engine to idol high enough, which for us meant we missed flight number two since we only had a 45 minute layover. however upon landing in dallas-fort worth the american airline staff was very helpful and we caught the next plan to miami only an hour later 🙂
chad wanted to stay in southbeach in miami so we did just that, we did not want to stay in an expensive and huge hotel but something quaint (and because its southbeach still pricey!). anyways after some research I found this adorable little hotel – cadet hotel
I knew right away it was exactly what we were looking for, unique and had all the special little details. for example upon getting into our room we found this (and on morning two the same thing except the card had mr & mrs knudson).
since we got in pretty late we just took a walk down to lincoln road mall and checked it out, had some supper – which went un-documented and I even forget the name of the restaurant now 🙁 but I did have a very delicious veggie burger and sweet potato fries.
day two we got up and went back down to lincoln road mall to take some photos and grab some breaky at none other than Starbucks! grande skinny cinnamon dolce latte and a greek yogurt parfait plus a banana for me and organic chocolate milk and perfect oatmeal plus nuts for Chad.
lincoln road mall is adorable…
also on lincoln road mall we found two great stores I had never been to –
ghiradelli chocolate – I am telling everyone to find this chocolate now – best ever…
next stop – wholefoods!! before we left I googled to find the closest one and since it was within walking distance away we went 🙂 because we were limited to what we could buy and haul around for the next 10 days with us I had to be picky here is what we got:
chobani blueberry yogurt (me), coconut yogurt (chad), granola, orange/cranberry scone, organic chocolate milk (chad loved it this much had to buy more!) and bananas – for breakfast the next day.
we also got some loot to take home, justins maple almond butter, better n’peanut butter, israeli couscous and caco nibs. oh and a $10 re-useable whole foods bag – oops…
next we set out to find the jersey shore gelato place – now being completely honest here I have never watched this show but Chad has 😉 and guess what we found it!
we of course sat down and had some gelato – I had oreo cookie and amaretto and I don’t remember what chad got now…haha.
I used to be 100% an ice cream girl but ever since our visit to costa rica last april I am a gelato girl 110% too bad you cannot find gelato that is any good where we live 🙁
from there we took a scenic walk back to our hotel through the art deco district.
since we didn’t have alot of time in miami and wanted to see as much as possible we decided to take a duck tour!!
it was really fun and the guide was awesome too. if anyone hasn’t been on one of these tours before it is a land/sea your so that vehicle above drives on land and as a boat! we drove down the what is called millionaire’s row – basically alot of nice house on an island -around the harbour then back through southbeach.
view of southbeach shoreline and hotel from opening credits of csi miami (a favorite show of ours).
the inventor of viagra’s house – $50 million, 3 bedrooms and about 20 palm trees that cost $25k each that lines the property!
that night I begged Chad to take my for sushi (he does like it but doesn’t think of it as a meal), I won but it again went un-documented. it was our first time trying what I would call dessert sushi – and it was soo good! mango, pineapple, shrimp, coconut – yumm…
the next morning, we got up headed back to lincoln road mall to you guessed it – Starbucks – what is a holiday without Starbucks daily!? then it was off to the port and I will end with a picture from the top of the ship of miami.
stayed tuned for part two – first two days at sea and our first port – st.maarten.
